Description: Known as the violet-eyed actress, Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) is portrayed in one of her most iconic looks from the film “Cleopatra” (1963) directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, which received, among others, an Academy Award for Costume Design – Color. The trio Irene Sharaff, Renie Conley and Vittorio Nino Novarese won an Oscar for creating spectacular clothing which would make film history.
The key factor of the painting is the contraposition of the technique and the colors used to represent one of the most famous Hollywood legends. The first, mostly expressed by tangled shapes, evokes an ultra modern and fantasy world centred on the blurred lines on the background and the intricacy of the icy gaze of the British-American actress. The second, caracterized by its brightness, fits perfectly in that world, but it takes the viewer to where Cleopatra belongs – a luxurious and memorable ancient past.
