Harrison C. Ernst
Harrison Ernst is a 21-year-old Finnish American currently pursuing a bachelor’s in art and art history with a concentration in studio art from Washington College. His art has two veins of inspiration. One is a respect for the process, a therapeutic flowing of ideas into a piece that feels aesthetically aligned. The other strives to have a sense of ingrained knowledge; the impression a context must exist beyond the presented imagery. He pulls from a variety of sources for inspiration and combines them into less recognizable versions of their origins; surrealist components, cultural and religious themes, or sometimes he will just ask a friend for a noun. This forces the cohesion of his pieces to exclusively rely on his developed style. In turn he often withholds his intentions when describing his paintings, he enjoys testing his internalized inspirations against pieces he used allusions as a prompt to create.
